As a new member you are showing an awful lot of arrogance here -- in any case all programs are really applications so there's nothing wrong in calling a program an application -- can't see what the problem is.

You also mention Windows 8 which is now obsolete and has been replaced by Windows 8.1 which is a lot better and if you don't like the metro desktop you NEVER have to see it.

Apart from missing the standard start menu - which you can easily replace either by a 3rd party (usually free) application or custom toolbars or both you can make it look and behave identically to W7 which certainly was regarded as a good OS.

Now if you were referring to the ways Ms is choosing to implement updates etc (via the store rather than full ISO's) then your post might havce some merit - otherwise it simply adds totally NOTHING and doesn't enhance your reputation ONE IOTA. If you REALLY hate W8 so much just disappear and let others get on sensibly on this Forum.

Well i have been with MS since 3.1. I have used all of the os"s. The growth of them all at their time has been wonderful to observe and use. None of the previous systems have been as advanced as 8. So there are a few previous programmes that are not in 8. Similar can be found elsewhere and for the most part free. I personally think it is the best move MS has made to date. I have to say well done MS. Keep up the good work. :thumb:

I really do not understand the point of that post specially i someone does not understand even the most elementary things like application and program.
To each it's own but I took to Win 8, 8.1 like a fish to the water, probably because I knew enough about Win 7 to notice that things are not that different "under the skin".

If you are referring to the login, you can either use a local account or Microsoft account, until Windows 9.

As for the LOG IN VIA FACEBOOK feature, I use all the time, you do not need to remember hundreds of logins and passwords, you can login with just one everywhere. It is actually much more efficient.

Anyway, if you really want to have a control over your OS, why do not you use linux?

Luckily, those of us who have brains understand that if we do not like the look and feel of the new Windows Store Apps, we can bypass them and Start Screen and never see them again.

Multitasking works of course with both Store Apps and traditional desktop programs. Some simple examples:

Again, those with brain know they can setup Windows 8 with a traditional local account, exactly as in Windows XP, Vista or Seven. If the user selects to use a so called Microsoft Account, it must be a real email account; you cannot sign to Windows using Facebook credentials although you can of course select to use the same email address you are using for Facebook.

All tech / IT forums have a lot of crash related threads, Windows Eight Forums is not an exception. However, one reason the percentage of crash reports and threads here at the EF is lower than for instance on our sister forum The Seven Forums is that Windows 8 does not crash so often.

Nothing has been renamed. Calling them Programs and Apps helps us consumers to understand the difference (understanding something once again requires brains). To tell it in a way I really hope confuses you even more, let's say that the traditional Desktop Apps are called Programs and new Windows Store Programs are called Apps.

Arguing semantics of application, and program, is a moot point. Windows has always had Programs, now it doesn't. I'm upset.

Just out of curiosity, let's compare setting up Windows 8 / 8.1 with setting up Windows 7. How many of us can honestly say that when we installed Windows 7, we started to use it without whatsoever tweaking and customizations, without any modifications in folder structure, settings and so on?

I have always had problems to understand this. Experienced geeks use hours (quite often days) to mod their Windows 7 to feel and look as they want to, install Classic Shell, change locations of some folders, spend hours to get the Start Orb and desktop icons to look as they want to, yet in case of Windows 8.1 a simple right click to open Taskbar Properties, selecting Boot to desktop and clicking OK seems to be too much.

Anyway, deleting a post even if it's the first post in the thread does not delete the thread in question. Only mods and admins can delete threads.

It took some getting used to, but after a year, I'm comfortable with 8.
