Get 8.1.1 final update tomorrow?

Hi All, talk about fate. My SSD with 8.1.1 on it from about a week back just died. I have an 8.1 backup image (including all my programs and data) on another SSD at home. I just got my wife to fedex it next-day so it will be here tomorrow afternoon.

But, I just read where today is the last day for that 8.1.1 update. Anyone know if there is an update file, like SP1+1 or something that I can grab today and install on the SSD tomorrow?

Thanks. Fingers crossed, but not very hopeful.

I was going to image this now-dead drive before leaving for the client's place Sunday evening, but ran out of time. It's come back to bite me. :)

Do you have a link for the 8.1.1 last day info? I find that hard to believe so would like to read about it.

Edit: I think what is happening is that as of this months "Patch Tuesday" a Windows 8.1.1 computer will not receive any more updates until Update 1 is installed.

You may recall that Microsoft had previously made the recently released Update 1 for Windows 8.1 a requirement for receiving future security updates, and that the original deadline was this month's Patch Tuesday, which occurs tomorrow, on May 13. Because Update 1 has not rolled out as quickly as expected, however, Microsoft has now extended this deadline another 30 days, and this month's Patch Tuesday updates will be available to Windows 8.1 users who have not yet installed Update 1 too.

I beleive the 8.1.1 update is KB2919355/ It can be downloaded from Microsoft's download page @ Microsoft Download Center That's the U.S. page. Just do a search for Microsoft Download Center where you're at and type in KB2919355 in the download center's search box.

I think the OP is confused? Today is the cutoff day for any further updates "if you have not already applied update 1". The "update" as Microsoft calls it will still be available on Windows update and as a stand alone download. If you do not install it, you won't get any further updates though Windows update for Windows 8.1. They will also fail to install if you download them separately and try to install them manually. That's all.

The manufacturer should replace that dead SSD with no problems. A little too soon for one to die.

I did a fresh format and install of Windows 8 64 Bit Pro. Sorry but I couldn't live without a start button so I have installed the Start8 start menu which is great. I try sometimes not to use it but find metro frustrating to find programs as I have many. I will use Metro for apps only and desktop of serious computing.
