I don't know why the program acted differently. Unless you changed a setting it wrote to its configuration. Programs that keep settings in an .ini file I usually install or make a folder in a folder I make under c: called Utils. I add it to the path. Then writing in the program folder doesn't have the permission problem.
You could enable the hidden Administrator account but it's generally not a good idea unless there's a need such as adding more users etc.. The true Admin account can even delete core system files. But if you want to enable it there's a tutorial in the Tutorials area in User Accounts.
