Hi all, I will clean install Windows 8.1x64, should I get the Enterprise or Pro version? It seems that the Enterprise has more features than the Pro but lacks the ability to install Windows Media Center. Thanks for your feedback

Hello Antares,

It really depends on what features you need or want over the other versus cost. If you like, the two tutorials below can help you compare the features between the Windows 8/8.1 editions to help decide.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5757-compare-windows-8-editions.html

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/32281-compare-windows-8-1-editions.html

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks Brinks, I did read that comparison sheet before posting, and the Enterprise version has additional features that might be useful. Can Media Center be installed in the Enterprise version or only in the Pro?

What do you mean by handicapped? And what are the alternatives? Thanks

Too bad, I guess I'll go with the Enterprise edition and use an alternative to Media Center. What is the best 3rd party Media Center software? I have a Synology NAS, is it better to run a media center in the NAS or from the PC? Thanks

Hi there.

a simple way of having a "portable" windows system is to install a decent distro of Linux on an external device, add VMWARE player and then install a Windows VM. If you use a decent USB3 external HDD or even a USB2 HDD -- or an SSD attached to a USB2 port the performance is not too bad at all.
