I'm little apprehensive about recurrent force power shutdown I had to do during past one week in my lappy. First, I had to do it while the whole system got stuck up following Prime95 stability scan when I customised blend settings for CPU 100% load along with 92% memory usage. Next time it was when the system freezed following CoreTemp startup (when I researched it through forums i could notice that the freezing issue is a bug in their latest version still persisting while running on win 8.1 OS). The last one was when I had to do when while shutting down normally I unplugged the usb connection from the port and system remained 'on' for unusually long time while screen had already turned off.
This all happened in the past week. I had bought this system just 2 months back. Could anyone tell me if there is anything to worry about or give some advice regarding it?
Forced shutdown is the least of your worries. W8 is pretty resilient as that is concerned. What's more important is why you have to force shutdown. Those testing and benchmarking programs push system to it's limits and even beyond so temperature and voltage readings have to be monitored continuously. I like to use CPUID HWMonitor because it has most comprehensive readings and records data in the period just before stoppage occurs. You can compare it's readings with AIDA, Speedfan and Everest too.
Last but not least, your system is stable when all of your programs work without troubles, not when Prime said so. It should be used just for troubleshooting.
@broe23 sorry that I had to bring it here again then, I couldn't find it
@countmike ya I think you are right. new sw & technologies really make you hell lotta scared. I really didn't want my system to take all that load into it. read somewhere that stability testing is good to be done in a freshly installed system as a routine.. that stupid article made me do it. I had monitored it continuously though..prime95(blend & small FFTs in two simultaneous instances) for 6hour or so then did complete aida64 for 9hours - both didn't give any fail. Temp didn't go above 70degree Celsius. I'm not intending to anything more to my system
After the forced shutdowns I had done full chkdsk & sfc/scannow ...all were successful. Windows memory test mdsched.exe also returned positive result. I have no system performance issue.
but when I tried booting from cd Memtest86+ iso file, it gave me error saying unable to boot from cd drive. I had burned the image from windows inbuilt burner & by third party iso burner in 2 separate discs but to no avail. don't know whats the problem. mine is UEFI setup windows 8.1.
Which program did you use to burn that disk ? It is more effective ti use USB memory for that. "Rufus 1.4.8" can install almost any .ISO on an USB and can be bootable of MBR or UEFI.
I had used both windows disk burner & cyberlink iso file burner at two different occasions. But yielded same error. I don't have a usb at present.
As you said earlier.... Is it really necessary to test it with memtest86+? I had already tested with inbuilt memory diagnostic tool via mdsched.exe..ran two passes which were successful.
