Random crashes (freezes) on my new computer

Hi everyone

So basically I'm having a problem with the new PC I built some months ago ... it crashes randomly (no BSOD, just a total crash with a weird lag sound). And when it does, I restart it and I check my CPU temp ... it's around 55C so I guess the problem ain't overheating.

Weird thing is it crashes when I'm not doing much (listening to music on Itunes, browsing on chrome) ... I don't play much games, but it never crashed during one.

Asus Sabertooth 990FX R 2.0 with AMD FX 9590 8core 5ghz
Corsair H60
2 8gb Patriot 1600mhz DDR3 ram
ATI Radeon HD 4600
Windows 8.1

So yeah I know my graphic card is old ... could it be the reason? I wish I could tell you more about the problem itself but ... really, it happens randomly.

You just need to download Who Crashed, then let it read the dmp file. It will give you an output of what is causing the crashes. Most times it is a bad video driver.

crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntkrnlmp.exe (nt!KeBugCheckEx+0x0)
Bugcheck code: 0x109 (0xA3A01F589F48B9BF, 0x0, 0x78D92A06F9F76FCC, 0x101)
Error: CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION
Bug check description: This indicates that the kernel has detected critical kernel code or data corruption.
This might be a case of memory corruption. More often memory corruption happens because of software errors in buggy drivers, not because of faulty RAM modules.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

But the other day, I went out of home for around 5 hours with my pc open ... and when I came back it was black screens. I restarted it and my CPU was crazy hot, at 85C I remember. All my fans work pretty well, so I guess I need to add some thermal paste

85C is quite hot. Not dangerously, but its getting close. Id try to find out if there are any processes that are eating up your CPU resources and time. The built in task manager works pretty well for that, but if you want more detailed info, download Process Explorer from Windows SysInternals.

Process Explorer

This will give you extremely detailed info. You can choose all sorts of columns to show what ever stats you want. Once you find a process that is using a lot of CPU, you can right click on it and choose properties and get even more in depth info on it.

system idle process.jpgSystem idle process might be the problem? Though, my CPU usage seems to be only 5% ... Sorry I'm pretty noob about that.

It just freezed again while simply listening to songs on Itunes. Checked the CPU temp right after and it was at 63C, which ain't that bad. For some reason, nothing new on ''Who Crashed''

Could somebody help me please?

Your problem is right in front of you. The CPU is getting too hot. Either you placed too much grease between the heatsink and CPU. Did not connect the fan for the CPU. Or did not use any grease at all on the CPU & Heatsink.

I would not be surprised that by now, you have pretty much fried the CPU by letting it go on this long.

I used the thermal paste that was on the Corsair I bought, no less no more. The fans are all connected.

But yeah, now that I remember, the Corsair was a refurbished unit. Still, the unit looked brand new and there was thermal paste on it but ... maybe not enough?

Not trying to deny what any of you guys are saying but ... is it possible that these crashes are simply caused by my old GPU?

Here's a pic of the inside of my PC, just to be sure that everything's okay.

You do not need Thermal Grease slathered across the CPU thick. You just need a thin coating on it, between the CPU & heatsink. As for TMPIN2. That would be the Northbridge. It can be that either that sensor is faulty, or being read incorrectly by the software you are using.

You may want to contact Asus regarding this. Or go through their forums to see if someone on there has the same motherboard with the same issues.

That 128c is from VRM chips. That processor draws over 200W when pushed and likes to heat up a lot. In your case, you are lucky, seen much worse cases. You might have problem between CPU and cooler base. If there was pre-applied paste or eevn vorse a thermal pad (thingy like a thin chewing gum) you better get some good paste end redo it.
