Power cuts out on laptop

I have a hp pavilion g6 that I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8, then 8.1. Everything works, except that whenever the battery runs low it just cuts out instead of hibernating. I've tried adjusting settings and updating the drivers but have been unable to fix this. Does anybody here have any ideas?

Some laptops do not behave correctly with Hibernate. So the manufacturers have set up the power profile to just shut down when the power is low. Look in your advanced power properties to see what the settings are in there.

The problem is it doesn't shut down, the power just cuts out, like pulling the power cable out of a desktop. I've set the settings to hibernate when the power gets to the critical battery level, and to notify on the low battery level, but neither happens.

This all worked fine with windows 7, I don't get why it wouldn't work in windows 8.

Hi Legend,
one of the new features of W8 was superfast startup, it was setup within the hybrid sleep mode please check your settings in advanced mode for this.

Also check for and dissable, if your lappy has some form of built-in faststart

Bad power profile. Again, you need to check the advanced power settings.

My guess is the reported battery life left is not the real battery life left. The battery is not as charged as Windows thinks it is. That or the battery is failing and has a bad cell.
