I quick formated one of my drive partitions by accident. Thought I was formating an external one. I am about to panic here...all my photos and mp3's were on this drive. Would a system restore get the drive back like it was?

I have Aidfile recovery software but I can't get it to restore, I don't understand the help files.

The truth is by formatting a drive, it only erased the file address table. The
data are still on the drives sound and not touched after you performed quick
formatting or full formatting.

Try using Recuva

Recuva - Recovery from damaged or formatted disks

I bought easeus data recovery wizzard. It will finish in about 6 hours. I am thinking I might try a system restore point after easeus finishes. Will I be making a mistake?

No need to do a system restore point if you are successful. It will not reverse the result of a formatted drive.

Easeus stopped responding

After a failed attempt with easeus, I run recuva in advanced mode and it only found a handful of files. I think easeus must have witten to the disk or something.

Sorta stuck right now. Recuva found a lot of files when I used the wizzard. However I don't think I can tick off 200,000 files to recover. Shouldn't there be a select all option?

Not sure what to do now. I may have a disk and partition backup file. I am not sure which drive it is for.

That many files!!!!! No wonder you were going off the deep end.

I would focus more on the files that are market Excellent.
In List view, click the heading State so that the Excellent files are sorted at the top of the list.
- Click the first filename (not its checkbox) at the top of the list - this is the first file marked excellent, it will now be highlighted
- Then scroll down the list until you get to the last file marked excellent
- Then hold down the shift key on your keyboard and click the filename (not its checkbox) of the last file marked excellent
- You should now see that all the files marked excellent are highlighted
- Then right click anywhere on this highlighted list and a pop up menu should appear
- select 'check highlighted' option from the pop up menu and you should now see that the checkbox for each file is now checked - there is a tick symbol in the box

What you do with the rest is up to you.

"You may have a disk and partition backup file" Look at the Properties, it may tell you from where it was made. Do not use this backup if the above was fruitful.

Recuva is on first pass and is 19%, 327,000 files found. Estimated time left is 23 hours. I will let the

program finish. However, I wonder if it will be able to finish. I wanted to just recover files that were't

previously deleted. But after easeus crashed it only shows a few files, therefore I chose scan deleted files as well.

Let it run it's course. When completed only restore the files marked excellent.

Glad to see that you are relieved. To avoid this problem in the future, do an image backup on a regular basis, It saves a lot of time and frustration.
