Windows 8 Consumer Preview seems to draw interesting remarks...

I'm finding it odd that after six months of using the Developer Preview, people are actually fine with using the more touchy Charms bar and fine with using touch apps because navigation is better. And even more, it seems like it's fine that Windows' start menu is gone because the Start Screen is a little better to navigate through.

That's just my two cents...

I actually like everything about it, even moving between the desktop and Metro is good, it just seems to give you more options. I just wish they would start pushing some more Apps down, I would like to keep most of my stuff in the Metro style, with just a few old desktop progs.
I really am looking forward to this on a tablet, this is really made for that. I think the OEM's are going to have a tough time though, at least for a while, now that Apple has got another iPad out there. I think think the OEM's might have an advatage if they put a couple of ports on their tabs, I know about the Cloud and wireless and all that, but its still handy to be able to expand ram and use SD cards and USB drives.

For once in my life, I am actually considering a tablet running Windows 8. I kind of came to that decision over a laptop because if I'm going to invest hundreds of dollars into my desktop that I intend to game on, why spend so much money on a laptop to play games on when my desktop does that? I think a tablet would be rather nice, I kind of want get my friend's ipad and connect it to my Windows 8 tablet, and take a picture of it... :)

Speaking of such, I doubt manufacturers will have a hard time selling Windows 8 tablets, they're new, fresh, original, and downright different and productive. It's like comparing an itouch to a laptop, there is NO argument. They'll also have a plethora of options, from ARM processors to i7s to HDMI output to USB 3.0/2.0 to different wireless adapters to SD cards and the such.

Personally, I kind of miss the metro animations the Developer Preview had, they were rather dynamic. The Consumer Preview dulled it down and replaced the different animations with a fade through effect or a flipping animation. It's not very metro to me.

Agree, having some ports on a tablet will be a big plus.

While I understand that it has advantages to have Windows in all your devices, I can hardly understand how can people choose phones or tablets with no flash and a very poor browser, to name just two things I couldn't accept that Windows misses on mobile devices.

I use the browser constantly on my smartphone. Windows phone browser has no real text reflow, no flash, no many features. And this IExplorer for Metro that Windows 8 brings is as poor and basic as a browser can be. No features whatsoever, while tablets and smartphones are fully internet oriented. Doesnt make any sense.

I have an old XP-era, first-gen Tablet PC -- which I've upgraded over the years to Vista, then to Win7. I tried Win8 DP on it and was surprised that it worked at all. I'm also going to try Win8CP on it -- but I'm not expecting it to work very well. Will really be interested in getting one of the new generation of Win8 tablets in the Fall -- but NOT if they cost in the same ballpark as the current Fujitsu Win7 tables ($1200 USD and UP).

I can't understand why people wouldn't use a big boy web browser, like IE 10 on their tablets! :p But from what I hear, the metro IE 10 will not have flash, but there might be flash on the Desktop version of an ARM tablet. But AMD and Intel tablets will ALL have flash capabilities, which is a big pro to that list. I think the web browser on Windows Phone 7 is better than iOS or android, and IE 10 in Windows 8 makes the ipad's safari browser look like a toy. It's internet in its fullest glory.

There's an Acer Win7 tablet that is running on a dual core AMD Athlon, I'm not sure if it's an Athlon, but it's 1.1 Ghz and costs like 550 dollars. Actually, compare that running Windows 8 to a 500 dollar ipad HD. Who wins that war?
