All my docs have suddenly been duplicated. The duplicate files have been renamed with the machine name (Peters_Laptop). I cannot open the original files and get a message "1 Interrupted Action" An unexpected message is keeping you from copying the file. Error code 0x80070490 Element not found.

This has applied to ALL of my documents. What is going on?

I have tried to delete all the useless files and rename the changed versions back to the original names. But after a reboot, the duplicates are back! Help!

I am running Win 8.1 on a Dell Inspiron Laptop. Is this related to SkyDrive?

Possible system file corruption. Suggest you run sfc /scannow in the elevated command prompt. Then Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

You may also have to choose an earlier system restore point if the above doesn't work.

How to remove duplicated files?

I have run the System Update as instructed and I ran Win Update with a reboot. I still have a pile of unreadable duplicated documents. How can I remove them? If I do a System Restore, won't they be retained? Can you describe what has occurred?

If you do a System Restore to a time before this started, check to see if duplicate files are still being created and you may be able to remove them though doubtful.

I would suggest however that you run a full virus scan first and also use Malwarebytes (Free).

Problem seems to be SkyDrive/OneDrive

I have checked other posts and this seems to be an issue with synching for OneDrive. I'm not sure how it happens - the chat support is not very informative. I tried to cancel my (free) subscription but got the runaround. I have turned OneDrive Off on my PC and will labour through cleaning it out now. Perhaps I will set it up again after i have completed the cleanout. Or perhaps i will go somewhere else!
