Everytime I try to use the above command, the console box vanishes within a second.

I have also tried to install chrome, the console opens and closes winthin a second, hence not able to read any nessages.

I have full administrator right.
No viruses

Thanks

You open an Administrative command prompt by using Win+x or right clicking the Windows 8 logo on the taskbar and selecting it.

If you are logged in as administrator there is no need to use Command Prompt (Admin) to install Chrome. Not knowing which AV program you are using, you may disable your Antivirus program temporarily also and see if the result is the same.

Actually I have a similar problem, though I do not know if it has the same cause.

Mine appears to be a fault of the takeown command going haywire.

May I upload a picture of relevant info? (And how do I do that, I almost never upload pictures into a forum...)

Or should I start a separate topic for my troubles?

Sorry maybe I did not explain properly.

1- If I click command propt (Admin) from start menu, the console vanishes within second, hence not able to read anything.

2- This migh/not be related. I tried to install chrome, the console flashes on screen, and nothing happenes after that, ie not installed.

I do log in as administrator
disable anti viruse

I don't what else I can try

PS
I created another log in name as administrator, the result is the same

Sure you have a problem. Please try the following:

:winkey: +R and type "cmd" (see if you get a cmd window)
:winkey: +R and type powershell (see if you get a powershell window)

Depending if either of these work you can then run through the usual steps - sfc /scannow, dsim /restorehealth, remove virus and so on.

Try them first though and see where we are.

Edit: If you get either open you can use "runas" to adopt authority.

I tried to run sfc /scannow, I get the msg: you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use sfc utility.

But I am an administrator, checked under user group, showinf as administrator.
Thanks

No, no, no. Everyone thinks that because their profile is part of the "Administrator" group you can do anything. This is not the case.

Unless you really are signed on as "Administrator" http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...rator-account-enable-disable-windows-8-a.html (which you are not or you would know it) you aren't.

With either the normal command prompt or powershell you need to adopt authority. Just type in "runas /?"

You'll be fine

EDIT - for powershell it is this "Start-Process powershell -Verb runAs" without the quotes, sorry.

Alex, I believe we had the same problem. I was here a couple posts/days ago?

I suggest you try and do what I did, just to check if its the same problem. Try to run the cmd (admin) again, but when it pops up, try hitting 'prtsc' to photograph it, then use something like paint to see if it recorded. (This may take a few attempts)

After you get it, see if it has the same message in the picture from my thread:

http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/46398-command-prompt-woes.html

Chances are if you have the same message, then the solution should be the same. (it'll be in neutron's post, make sure to give him a thumbs up if it works, and use the .exe one in his solution)

Good luck on your problem!

Thanks adamf,
Followed the instruction to enable the Administrator, an extra log in name ( administrator) was created, logged in and installed chrome.
What I don't understand id that my log in name is as an administrator when checked under user group.
Is ther any way that I can modify my present user name as a full administrator, so don't have to keep log in and out when an administrator rights required.
Thanks again

You can use the built in Administrator account (and rename it if you want) but this account can only be a local account not a microsoft account so you can't use any of the store apps. Another option is to reduce UAC (User Access Control) - then you'll not be prompted for your password so often. Generally you don't often have to actually use the built in Administrator account - only if something goes wrong.
