Solved How can I revert back to "pre-update 1"...???

Persistent nagging issues that didn't exist before, and I'm fed up trying to fix 'em.

System restore? Or uninstall the update, namely KB2919355. I'm not sure what the consequences of option 2 is though.

Option 2 then I guess? What issues are you having? If you already started a thread on them just post a link and I'll have a look see.

After KB2919355 (8.1 update) I have KB2467163 (C++ 2010 Security update), KB2961887 (IE flash), KB2964358 (IE security) and KB2962140 (latest Security update on 6th May).

You can try uninstalling all of these but I've a feeling it will end up bugging you more in the end. Some future KB will make it a compulsory pre-req (as the same module has been changed again) or it will get rolled into a cumulative package. Windows update will just install it again for you (or if you hide it you'll have to test each one to see if it works). I think that will be even more hassle and eventually will be untenable as no way are MS going to do a parallel development stream for 8.1 pre-update..

I will uninstall ALL updated right ou to Beginning of April.

But then what? You'll be stuck on April 2014 forever. You'd be better off going back to 8.0 as at least you'll get security updates until it's deadline.

So, I did the deed last night and there is a vast improvement so far.

Microsoft is not going to support Windows 8.1 without the Update 1 installed. I believe support is going to end within a month. If I were you I'd try a clean install and see if that helps. Or as another comment suggested, go back to 8.0.

Why in God's name would I need microsoft's support..?? Puh-leeze... I accept all responsibility for anything that happens to my computer.

I have now marked this as solved, as the issue seems to have gone away.

You need Microsoft's support for security updates, bug fixes, and other updates. None of these will be available for non-updated 8.1.

My security is fine, and I fixed their bugs myself.
One can't say they need to rely on ms for bug fixes, when their updates themselves are the bugs.
