Hi, I have not yet installed the developer preview of Win 8 but was curious to know as to which version of Windows Media Player is currently in there and which version of WMP would the final release of win 8 include?
I read somewhere that the next version of WMP would support more file formats... If so, has anyone tested the file formats? Does it include any new codecs / plug-ins / features?

Windows 7 x64 Home Premium / Commodore OS Vision / Windows 8 Release preview
Werty, welcome to the Eightforums .
Windows 8 Will have the same version of windows media player as seven or vista. This version that came with it is: 12.0.8250.0 (Windows media player 12) Also, it does not come with any more codecs than Windows 7 Due to the fact that even freeware codecs are copyrighted and as long as i know microsoft can't distribute them.
(But you can download the by yourself )

I use MediaMonkey for music with the MonkeyFlow addon... I like flipping through my album covers. Nice eye candy.
I usually use Media Player Classic for visual media, though I can get it to install correctly in Eight yet. WMP12 sometimes has trouble with subtitles -- it won't turn them off in a few movies I backed up to HD.

windows media player hi everyone
how can I transfer my music files plus artwork from my windows vista laptop to my windows 8 laptop.
Windows Media Player Now I know Windows Media Player doesn't play all the codecs in the world but for .avi files and such it's a charm and even bluray files. Well I can bring video back to Media Player on Windows 8. If anyone is interested please post your questions and concerns.
If enough people want this I'll...
Windows Media Player From Start, I can get WMP and if I have a cd in the drive it will play the cd. When I try to copy the files to the My Music folder. I get an error message. I am not sure if WMP is installed with Windows 8 or is it an add on?

Can't rip CD's through Windows Media Player Hello,
Since I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 I've noticed I've lost the ability to rip CD's through Windows Media Player. It just gives an error message saying "cannot rip one or more tracks". I looked in the Rip Music settings of Media Player and noticed the "rip music to this location"...

Windows Media Player vs Media Center avi issues I installed Windows 8, and now avi files look like poo when played through Windows Media Center on my PC or X-box. The same .avi file looks great when Windows Media Player is used though.... I was using Windows 7 before the "upgrade" and Media Center worked just fine on my PC and X-box.
