Windows Media Player

Hi, I have not yet installed the developer preview of Win 8 but was curious to know as to which version of Windows Media Player is currently in there and which version of WMP would the final release of win 8 include?

I read somewhere that the next version of WMP would support more file formats... If so, has anyone tested the file formats? Does it include any new codecs / plug-ins / features?

Thanks!

Werty, welcome to the Eightforums :) .

Windows 8 Will have the same version of windows media player as seven or vista. This version that came with it is: 12.0.8250.0 (Windows media player 12) Also, it does not come with any more codecs than Windows 7 Due to the fact that even freeware codecs are copyrighted and as long as i know microsoft can't distribute them.

(But you can download the by yourself ;) )

It is probably wise to install VLC too - and if it is only for .flv

No obvious changes I can see in either WMP or WMC

I installed Shark007 Codecs. It works on my Windows 7 as well the the Developer's Preview and it makes your Windows Media Player play more formats like .flv.

Download Windows 7 Codecs 3.5.4 - FileHippo.com

With this package, I no longer need to install other third party media players. I hated VLC.

I use MediaMonkey for music with the MonkeyFlow addon... I like flipping through my album covers. Nice eye candy.
I usually use Media Player Classic for visual media, though I can get it to install correctly in Eight yet. WMP12 sometimes has trouble with subtitles -- it won't turn them off in a few movies I backed up to HD.

I've used Shark007 Codecs on Windows 7 for ages, and will soon install it on the CP. If anyone knows any better ones I'd be willing to have a look.

@Hpdeskjet: Thanks a lot for the screenshots...Really appreciate it.

All others: It would be better if we reply to the topic... This thread is not about which other codecs / players are better... It was just for WMP...
