So I've been trying to install a new application, but then the screen freezes and takes forever to load when I double click the application I'm trying to install. When I keep clicking in the desktop region, it freezes goes white, then a dark purple. What is happening and how can I fix this?

D3, you haven't given enough information for us to help you.

First, please go back to your profile and fill in as many of the blanks about your computer as you can. This information can be very helpful to us.

Second, which application (and version number) are you trying to install? Does it say Windows 8 compatible? For instance, I have a Word Perfect Office package released prior to Version 6; it will not install on my Windows 8/8.1 Update system.

Although I haven't attempted installing that WP Office program on Windows 8, I have attempted to install an older program on my Windows 7 system and the symptoms exactly match what you're describing.

If, perhaps, "a too old version" is what you're trying to install, maybe you can install a virtual machine with an older OS to your system.
