Solved windows 8.1 looks the same as windows 8. no new features.

i cant pin apps to the task bar and they don't open on the desktop. when i go into system it says "windows 8.1 pro"

Are you sure you have the 8.1 Update 1 (KB 2919355) installed?

Look at your Update Install History to see if you have (KB 2919355).

Your specs show you started with W7, when and how did you upgrade to W8.0 and/or 8.1? Sounds like you may still be on W8.1. For users that had upgraded to 8.1 a couple of months ago the functions you mention were not available until the W 8.1, Update 1 on 4/8/14.

Install all of your Windows Updates first, then see if you may be able to update to 8.1.
