Quicker Way to Copy/Move but Keep Both Files

OK guys - My next annoyance with Windows 8/8.1.

When moving items with the same name from one folder to the next, older versions of Windows had an option to Keep Both Items and to do the same for how many other instances there are.

Now though you have to go through to another window and tick two boxes. Now 8 has been out a while, has someone found a way to go back to the quicker, easier system? I'm sure I read somewhere a work-around is available.

I don't know about 8.1. On 8.0 I found Explorer file move/copy sluggish so I set up TeraCopy as optional copy move handler. It gives several options as buttons in the case of a name collision. Seems only one click is required. But I don't save both copies. You'd have to try it for yourself to be certain. The free version works fine for my needs.

Hi, thanks for that.

I too have found copying and moving files slow in 8/8.1, so TeraCopy sound really interesting, and not just for my original need.

OK, had a go with it. It think it seems slower transferring files with TeraCopy, but it has cured my original complaint so I'll keep with it for now and see how it goes :thumb:.

Done a few more moves/copies, in the wild so to speak - I now agree that TeraCopy when copying to a removable drive is considerably faster than Windows!

Very slow. Maybe the fancy file copy dialog is to take your mind off it.

Same annoying, time consuming steps to execute with TeraCopy though, if not worse!

I've been using Teracopy for a couple of years...much better that the default file handler :)

And sometimes that calculating graphic would just hang on me when only a few files were selected. There's an intermittent endless loop in there someplace. :(

Do you have it in the drag and drop menu? Just for grins I tried copying to folder with the same file I just copied there. Clicking rename automatically named it _2.

No, not at all. You can perform all tasks with just one click. It really is that simple.

Drag - Drop - Click ---- Every trip
