Although it doesn't seem to have cropped up in this Forum, I know that there are many Win 8.1 users out there who are very frustrated by the Charms Bar which invades their screen uninvited. This seems to be a problem for those using laptops with touch pads.
By pure fluke, I seem to have found a solution, at least for my Lenovo:

Show hidden icons.
Double click on the one that looks like a touch pad (ELAN Pointing device)
Select edge swipe.
Deselect

I hope this helps someone.

It has cropped up many times. You may also want to consider turning off the one finger scrolling as well - that helped on my Lenovo also :)

Charms bar

Thanks asamf .
I don't like to waste peoples' time, so I checked for anything to do with the Charms bar in the search facility. Nothing came up!

No worries mate. To be honest when I upgraded to Windows 8 it drove me demented until I turned it off. It was the only problem I had at all with Windows 8 - the start button and shutdown issues that were a problem for others never concerned me in the slightest.

The problem with this forum is there is too much stuff but tutorials is a good place to start...
