Start Menu edit: 'You need administrator permssion to..'

Hi, I have a large start menu which I've always customised with iconised folders (Multimedia, Internet, Utilities) and am accustomed to being able to move, delete, rename items in the start menu.

Win 8 interrupts with a dialogue box telling me I need admin permission to do most things. And there is a slightly drawn out progress box which doesn't like being interrupted by me doing sthg with the start menu before it finishes. (Sticks at 94% if I do).

Now this was never the case before Win8 (which needs admin rights for a good many things). I am running as a user with admin rights. Is there any way of getting rid of this dialogue box?

(I'm using Aston Menu - which gives fly-out columns like XP- useful for larger start menus).

Thanks

Sounds like an Aston menu problem. What you describe doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard of in Windows 8.

Hi, good idea, but I'll add that if I 'explore all users' or browse to the equivalent folder in explorer, and then try to move items, I get the same message.

I've finally realised that this occurs where the start menu entries are 'All users' entries. When I inspected the permissions of the folder (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu) full control and modify were not enabled for me as an admin user.

Changing these solves the problem. But that leaves me puzzled.. why has that changed in Win 8? Or is it just an odd issue for me..
