Hi,

I have been experiencing repetitive problems with Windows 8.1 going to black screen instead of the usual Windows 8.1 colourful login screen, after program(s) install requires a restart. It's no specific programs install doing this. It's very random. It has happened after iTunes, Windows Updates, and other programs as well. Not all reboots after an installation does this, but when it does happen, the only way I can get login screen is by using a previous working image created using Macrium Software. This is very frustrating as Windows 7 Pro don't show this issue. I have read on internet of few people experiencing this issue with Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Is there a reason why this happen, and a permanent fix for such an issue.

Thank You

Unfortunately I again get a black screen after reboot from Windows updates. If I press Enter key nothing happens. There is definite network as I can access drives of the windows 8.1 computer from another computer. Remote desktop does not work as it just closes itself. This makes an OS completely useless when I can't see anything and even log in. Will restore again using Macrium Reflect Software to last working 8.1 state that allows log in. Anyone please give some insight on how to troubleshoot this issue.

Decided to do one update install at a time. I started with "Definition Update for Windows Defender". No Restarted required. I however restarted computer. I get to Boot menu created by Macrium Software with no issue. Select Windows 8.1, and unfortunately I get the black screen over the colourful login scree. So even there the issue shows. Have to restore again using Macrium Reflect, and will install another update over Defender one to see if restart gives same login black screen of death :mad:

From the 42 Installed updates the following remaining 3 gives me a persistent black screen after restart making OS unusable to do anything

1. Definition Update for Windows Defender (KB2267602);
2. nVidis - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 - NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS;
3. Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2919442).

Hope to get some advice as to why I get this issue and how to resolve it to continue using Windows 8.1 Pro.

Thank You
