Windows 8.1 Desktop Shortcut Icons Don't Work

Hey so I'm installing all my programs on Windows 8.1 and I'm finding that most of my desktop shortcuts will give me an error whenever I try to run them. Every time a program creates a desktop shortcut the icon changes to this default icon. One thing to note is I have changed the default program files destination folder to my HDD D drive and also kept a SSD C drive program files folder. However no matter what drive I select to install it gives me an error "path is not specified". Any help is appreciated.

As a test, download and merge the .reg file for the listed lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below to restore it's default associations, and see if that may help if this is the issue.

I think I found the problem... The start in folder was wrong. Is there an easier way instead manually changing the start in folder every time?

Yes, I got everything sorted out except steam and malwarebytes. Every time I try to change the drive from D to C it reverts back to D and wont start the program.

You might see if uninstalling and reinstalling those two to the D drive may sort it.
