Solved tiles are sorting automatically whenever windows wants

Hey guys,

I like to have my tiles on the start screen sorted as I want and that they stay on the place I've moved them to.
But after each reboot of my computer Windows decides to re-arrange them.
This might be exciting for adventurers and explorers but I just want to use my computer quick and easy.

Does anybody know how I keep windows from re-arranging?

Best
Chris

Do you log into more than one PC with a Microsoft Live ID? The reason I ask is SkyDrive/OneDrive will sync things like your tile layout across all your PC's. If the two PC's have different screen resolutions your tiles get rearranged depending on which PC you log into last.

Hey alphanumeric.
Thanks for answering me.
Yes, you're right, I have 3 windows 8 machines and I know that they sync my apps list.
But it doesn't make sense to sync tile positions when you have different screen resolutions to allow the smallest display to arrange the icons on your largest one or even the other way 'round.

It's selfunderstood that you use your devices different.

Is there a way to sync you applist but avoid syncing the sorting/positions on you different devices.

thanks
Chris

You need to turn off that you have Windows Live sync all three machines. What you do on one unit. Affects the others. Using Windows Live with Windows 8, is just how we used to have Windows 2000 work with Roaming profiles. How you set up your profile on one desktop, followed you to whatever desktop you logged into. Unlike Windows XP-7, where you could go to any workstation on the domain and make each one their own identity, depending on what you did at that workstation.

You just need to go into PC Settings, then into Sync your settings and change the various selections. See Sync Windows 8 User Settings Between PCs & Tablets via Microsoft Account for further explanation. The one setting that is causing this, is the "Sync Settings on this PC". Of course you could set up multiple profiles, so that each machine would have their own profile. In other words, just use a number after your username, before the @ sign. Then you just need to remember which ID goes to which machine.

Syncing the settings is actually a good thing. It is so that in case you ever have to re-install the Operating System on the unit. You can return it back to the exact settings that it was at. Before the problem that caused the computer or tablet, to not be capable of being fixed through software or registry fixes, or you had to replace it with another unit.

wow alphanumeric - super, thank you so much.

To be honest, I've been there but somehow I must have overseen this.

This is exactly what I was looking for.

:thumb: No problem, your welcome. Some of those settings are a bit tricky to find and when you do they aren't where you'd expect to find them.
