Hi, I'm using W8.1 x64, and I'm unable to set a task or program at windows startup. I've tried everything:

A. Task Scheduler

B. Shortcut to "Programs/startup"

C. Set the program itself in its options (this method works with some programs, but not everyone, and of course, not every program has an option to start whith Windows)

D. Run as administrator, propieties and give permissions, privileges... etc

Nothing happens. I've checked in the Task Manager tab STARTUP for the programs I set up, and they are all there, in that list. But they never run. What can I do?

In Windows XP it was as easy as add a simple shorcut to the "Progams/Startup" folder. Now it seems to be impossible.

Thanks!

Hello Rambomhtri,

If the programs "Run as administrator", then Windows will not run them at startup by default.

If you like, you could create an elevated shortcut using the method in the tutorial below, then place that elevated shortcut in your Startup folder. This only works with administrator accounts and not standard users though.

Hope this helps, :)

Thanks, I've tried a lot of things with task scheduler, creating basic tasks, or advanced option ones, with permission, without it, run as administrator, also NO run as administrator, add shortcut to the startup folder... nothing.

After do all that appears in that link, on startup I've got this problem in task scheduler last run result: (0x1). When I restart the PC, a message pops up and says: Cannot find "C/Program" or something like that. I've checked the grammar and I think it's perfect.

Forget all about it, I've discovered that I typed 2 double " in the task scheduler.

NOW FINALLY has started in startup. Oh god, I've been trying to do this since January, and gave up for W8.1. Many thanks!!!!!

Lol, I didn't notice that grammar error. It's funny, because I'm saying that I typed the sentence correctly, using a sentence with grammar errors, xD. But I think I wrote that post with my smartphone, and that's the reason it's misspelled.

This was a nice thread to run across. Been trying to figure out how to get SpeedFan to run at boot. Just followed the directions and placed a shortcut in the Startup folder. Do know the link works without bringing up a UAC prompt. Won't know until next boot if it will act like I want. Hopefully.......

It's nice cause it works, but it's worse than a built-in startup option in a program. The startup is slower if you use this method.
