boot order

Win 8.1 Older BIOS
When I tap F12 I see 1-hard drive, 2- cd/dvd, 3- cd/dvd, 4-diagnostics,5-setup.
When I go to set up(F2) at boot I see a different setup. It is hard drive first then dvd+ lists usb and other entries unlike the order in F12.
I don't know why that is.

However, my question is, in boot under set up, I am trying to set it so usb can be booted from but I cannot seem to understand how to navigate and save. I know how to use the up down and left right but I cannot reset the boot while there. I know when I leave I will be prompted to keep or not but I am not there yet. I did it with my older dell but have forgotten.

Also, I do not know if it should be set up in boot so usb is in F12 instead of one of the others listed or just come to set up to get usb to boot as needed.
if you could lease give me some hints as to how to set the boot I would really appreciate it. Thank you
Peter

To see a USB "bootable" device in the F12 menu, you need to have the USB drive connected to the USB, and it has to be recognized by the system. I know sometimes when it hasn't shown up for me, it is because I did not have the USB drive connected to the system in time for the BIOS to recognize it. I would simply leave the USB drive connected and reboot and try F12 again. Hope this helps,

You were right - as soon as the pen drive was in and I tapped F12 I saw it. Thank you
