Pictures in the preview are stripped and will not change?

Windows 8.1 pictures are stripped in the small preview so i can't see what i'm opening until i've opened it. It is fine once it is open just when it is smaller?

@rrazzaq,

Are these TIFF image files by chance? If so, there was a KB2459492 hotfix for this in Windows 7, but not sure about Windows 8.

I suppose that you could open an image in Paint and save it as a .jpg to see how it look afterwards.

What is the image viewer you're using there?

When i view the picture they are fine, it is just the thumbnail. I am using the windows photo viewer. But its not viewing them thats the problem merely the thumbnails.
