Windows 8 Consumer Preview

I've been reading through some of the comments on here about how confusing and hard it is to navigate through Win dows 8. I understand its different to Windows 7 and even the Developer Preview, but without reading anything I managed to be able to find most things within about half an hour. Within 2 hours I have the whole thing under control.
I cant understand the amount of trouble some people are having, I can understand that from Mac users, but surely not Windows users, its just not that hard.
The other thing is, I've got this on three computers, one old Atom netbook, a dual core Atom home theatre computer, glad to see MCE back, and a E8400 Intel computer. In all instances it is faster and more responsive than XP and Windows 7. I cant understand people saying how sluggish it is, the only thing I can see is that they might not have their chipset drivers correctly installed.
All in all, I am completely happy with Windows 8, I just hope people give it a bit more of a chance, as this is the future, especially for tablets.

Exactly. Like I've been telling everyone, once you get used to the new interface it's FAR more efficient than it was in W7. People hear stuff about the UI being designed for tablets and they just start saying stupid stuff. What they don't realize is that Microsoft's brilliant developers figured out a way to make an incredible tablet experience while improving upon the classic desktop experience. It's such a difficult feat that it almost sounds impossible, but there it is.

I just don't understand how people are having difficulty. I think they're just starting W8 for the first time, seeing that it's different, and then throwing their hands in the air and crapping their pants.

Thanks for agreeing at least there are a couple of us who think this is good and not that hard. The other thing is, I've got XP running on an old Netbook and its good for that and older computers, but I really cant believe anyone who would willingly run XP on a modern computer.
For Gods sake people start using your brains and take a few minutes to figure this thing out, I'm sure you'll be a lot happier once you've got the hang of it, also it boots up a lot faster than Windows 7, so if you dont like Metro, the desktop is only one click away, and Windows 7 would have taken another 20 seconds to boot up.

There are a few legitimate complaints, albeit small ones. My only problem so far is the lack of a more advanced context menu in the app list screen. They really need to add the ability to add icons to the desktop from that screen.

The only other dislike I've heard so far is that people don't like the start screen taking up the entire desktop when they want to launch something. A minor complaint in my opinion. Everything else people have complained about so far has been something that is easy to do in W8 and they just don't know about it or are being stubborn.

I have a big complaint about the facts that we can't resize the Icons on the start page, They get it wrong, it's an inefficient way to use our desktop monitor

Of course it will defeat their stupid idea to make the same Windows for a Phone and a Desktop.

I agree there are a couple of niggly little things, but this is still a Beta, and instead of all of us crying about it, we should be using our brains to work around things. Also some of these things might be addressed in future updates.
Me personally, I'm going to try to do more in Metro than the Desktop, although I know this is not always going to work. I think this is an exciting time, especially when this arrives on tablets, I really want Microsoft to be a dominant player on tablets. I don't like Apple and it looks like Android is not going too well in tablets, so this a good opportunity for MS.

At area 66, don't forget these aren't Icons, they are live tiles which update all the time. Also there is a keyboard shortcut to get to the app you want in an instant, I just forget what it is at this moment. These sorts of little problems, just take a little while to get used to.
Either on this forum or another there is a list of shortcuts, which will make life a lot easier.

I'm not talking about the Metro tiles, but the one of Word, Excel and other non metro apps, don't think I need something live for Word

I agree, I find it obnoxious that people dismiss Windows 8 based of maybe, a few hours usage of it. And even then, sometimes they don't even TRY to figure it out. Some think that if it doesn't work like Windows 7 did, it's blasphemous and crap. I like Windows 8, along with Windows Phone. I like how it's cleaner and more able to be organized than previous versions.

But I do have to say though, the Consumer Preview seems to segregate the two interfaces, that might needs to be fixed.

Well, personnally I like the Windows 8, there's less bugs than Windows vista, you remember ? Ok, some little things are not very cool, but don't forget, it's a CONSUMER PREVIEW, not a final version ! I have only one complain, my Dvd ram has disappear and impossible to restore it… it can be a problem but for now I don't need it too much. I use usb keys, but I hope this kind of situation will not be longer in time...
