I am unable to get out of safe mode in Windows 8.1. I have tried everything, but it keeps asking me for a password when I only have a PIN. Any ideas?

Hello Stephen,

See if you may be able to boot to normal mode using either step 6 in OPTION FOUR or OPTION FIVE in the tutorial below.
It is required that your account has a password before you would be able to create a PIN, so your account does indeed have a password. While signing in to Windows, you could click on the Sign-in options link to be able to select to sign in with your password instead of a PIN.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Thanks for the input. Here is my current status.

1. Could not get out of safe mode. I rebooted over and over, but all took me back to the same place....my login screen where I entered my PIN to gain access to a purple page with the only option being to click on my name which took me back to the login screen page.

2. Tried all recovery options and tried to get a command prompt, but all led to the same page...a page to click on my name and enter a password which I don't have. I only use a PIN to gain access to my computer. I even entered my hotmail password, but that didn't work. So those methods were not an option. I was able to try and reset my computer which I didn't want to do since it would erase my files. But I started to do it and it worked up until 44% where it stopped and said it couldn't finish.

3. I rebooted, but now the only screen I get is a black screen stating to insert media and reboot or configure boots which I have done.

All this from just going into safe mode.
