Solved How I can change my boot order so I can boot from DVD?

Hi Shawn, Your tutorials are great!

I'm very frustrated. I'm trying to boot Windows 8.1 from DVD (for Nero backitup.)
I can get to the advanced settings option and even to the UEFI option.
Once I get tothe UEFI restart the computer shuts down and then just sits there - power light on - but nothing on the screen. The screen stays asleep(?) if that is what you would call it.

I'm on an Acer Aspire AT3-605_ES20 desktop. They had an instruction to hit "delete" at the Aspire logo during boot. But I don't get an Aspire logo - it just starts up to the Windows log in screen. I turned off "fast startup".

Any suggestions on how I can change my boot order so I can boot from DVD?

Thanks!
Steve

Hello Steve,

You should be able to press the F12 key at boot to open the boot menu to be able to select to temporarily boot from the DVD.

If you like, you could also press F2 to enter your BIOS setup to select to have the DVD drive listed first in the boot priority order, and your OS drive second.

Why can't I get the F12 Boot Menu to work on my notebook or netbook?

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hi Shaun,

Thanks of the help. I'm just getting the hang of some of this stuff.

Right now when I boot (or re-boot from change settings .. advanced options....UEFI FIrmware settings - your tutorial) my desktop doesn't give me the BIOS menu at all.

It seems it boots (while my monitor is still asleep (yellow power light) and I don't see anything until it shows me the Windows 8.1 login screen (and monitor turns on and power light goes green.) I feel like the startup is hiding the the boot menu from my monitor?

I have read about a "legacy" setting for BIOS in Win8.1 but have not done anything about that. I ran "msinfo32" and it says 'BIOS Mode - UEFI".

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks again!
Steve

After the whole day I have sorted myself: I use an HDMI cable to watch TV from my computer. It is displaying my BIOS menu (but turned off!) Acer wanted me to update my BIOS - Done! And then they wanted me to roll back to Windows 8. No way. They just were not asking me anything. I found a post about screen resolution for UEFI and it tweaked. Sorry to waste your time - thanks for the support!
