All Consumer preview downloaders =why should I change from Dev edition

Hi All
Like everyone else I've downloaded the consumer preview both as x-64 and 32 bit.

While I'll probably have a go at loading up a VM is there any advantage over using this system compared with the Developer preview espcially with the extended expiry date cut off..

One cause for concern seems to be the Max video resolution -- I can play movies using the Developer edition at Full HD -- from what I've read so far the consumer edition has very limited video modes (a mega showstopper for a laptop or desktop OS espcially outputting to a nice large Plasma TV).

Please tell me I'm wrong -- I've got used to the developer preview and don't really want to replace it with "an inferior product".

Cheers

Load it up, jimbo. I detested the DP but don't have that attitude with this version. It's more polished, although I can't answer your question about max resolution.

It's definitely worth a go. When DP was released, the UI of Windows 8 was not added into it. A lot of other functionality was also left out. Windows 8 CP comes with a better user experience than DP.

This has some oddities. When the mouse is in the Start screen's corner, a little stylized image of the Start screen appears. This shows a kind of super-zoomed out view of your own Start screen. It's tempting to try to click on this—but moving the mouse out of the corner usually results in the image going away (though sometimes it doesn't). The temptation to click the graphic must be resisted, and the mouse must be clicked in the very corner.

The guy on Ars Technica noticed this too.

Actually if you go through Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you will notice that the three corners (except the top right one) have different functions. You can cycle through open apps from the top left corner and also right click and close the apps from there. The lower left corner brings up the start screen. The lower right corner (the whole right side) brings up the charms bar. The magnification button on the bottom right zooms out the start screen for a larger view.

In a nutshell, WDP lacked many features which WCP has. It was also more buggy and very difficult to use, no comparison IMO.

HI there
thanks for the replies

trying a VM this morning

The Max resolution might be a problem -- I'll try to see if a decent plasma can connect at decent resolution -- my Hotel has a nice size plasma TV in the room with USER INPUTABLE HDMI !!! as well as VGA etc. I'm working some of this weekend which is why I'm still in the hotel.

Nice to see a hotel realizing people want to use the TV for other things than |"Sex Movies" etc.

Cheers

I'd go for hard drive partition and give it a whack as your main OS to FULLY see and use the metro interface. I must say, it's more usable and polished. But I have a few grievances though....
