Hi , i had windows 7 and decided to go back to windows 8.1 and after installing windows 8.1 on my LocalDisk i ofund a folder named "b04102c22e49885eb0" - i have no idea where it came from, i'm sure it wasn't there. I cannot delete it because : adminRequest -- after clicking continue access denied ; and after taking the ownership of the folder is the same thing.
Yes , I am on an Administrator account.

So, what's up with this folder?

Thank you.

Did a search on it and could not find anything and I am sure someone who knows will come along. To me even though I am not sure if Windows still does it but it sounds like a "Windows old" folder but usually it is called "Windows old" on previous versions of Windows so I don't know. Can you tell us the size of the folder as they may lend to some clue.

it's not an Windows old file because it contains this and it's not on the old system partition which i deleted an created again during windows setup. And also the date of those files is odd because i bought my laptop in 2012 (NEW) and since then i had to replace my HDD once.

These are usually a failed Windows Update. You can delete the folder by taking ownership - Then setting your rights.

Right click on the folder and choose Properties.
Select the Security Tab
Click on the Advanced button

At the top will show the Owner, Click on Change
Set the owner to your account - Click on Advanced
Click on Find Now to populate the Search results
Double Click on your account in the list
Click OK
Click OK to close Advanced Security Settings...
Click OK to close (folder) Properties

Right click on the folder and choose Properties again
Click Edit
Click on your User account in the - Group or user names - list.
Put a check mark in the - Allow / Full control - box
Click OK
Click OK

You now have full control of the folder and are able to delete it.

I appreciate your help but i already tried that and is the same thing. I cannot delete it.

I noticed you stated you took ownership but after that did you go back in and set your rights. Just because you take ownership does not give you the rights you may need to delete the folder.

that checkbox was checked . i tried to do that for another account named administrator which had only special permisions and got this. that error occurs also when you try to check this box .

I think i have a bigger problem than that folder.
Why i'm getting this error everytime i try to change the rights for my user. i tried to take the ownership of drive C because i cannot modify some registry keys but when i tried to give myself Full Control i got that error.

Windows says that my account is an Administrator account but i still have some limitations.
How can i get full control for everything ?

The problem with the orphaned update folder is you will need to go inside the folder and take ownership of what's inside and if there are folders inside then you will need to go inside and take ownership of the objects . folders etc.. when you have ownership of the folder and everything underneath you will be able to delete it, Taking ownership of an orphaned update folder is one thing but as far as taking complete ownership of drive C that is not a good idea as it needs ownership and rights that are set to function / operate correctly and protect itself.

i understand. Thank you. But about the administrator rights. I need to confirm even if I'm renaming a shortcut on my desktop. I think all of these are caused by this thing with importing user settings when you log in with your Microsoft account. Previously on Windows 8 everything was fine but now on 8.1 i have to confirm almost everything. Why?

I know you've probably set UAC, but maybe when you upgraded to 8.1 it reset. I know even when it's set to Never Notify it still wants confirmation for some things. When I launch CCleaner it still asks me to confirm that I want to run it. But that being said I've come to realize and appreciate the fact that it is a safety feature that's trying to protect me and so I have to confirm it operation, it does run. I know there is a way to completely disable UAC and not just turn notification off and you would have to search this forum as I have seen instruction on here on how to do it. Also going back to the orphaned update folder, I would go inside the folder and delete what I could because believe it or not it may be just some file you will need to take ownership of - will save you some time.

Deleting the folder - Done!
Thanks.

Regarding the other thing ...i don't know .. it's weird because -- first time i had Windows 8 and then i upgraded to W8.1 via Windows Store.
Something went wrong lately and decided to try again Windows 7 (this one was preinstalled when i bought my laptop) , W7 turned out to be crappy after 1 week of just browsing the internet and using eclipse so i switched back to 8.1 this time directly to W8.1 (fresh install - I get all of these for free thanks to my university and Dreamspark).
And i find it weird because first time whe i upgraded to 8.1 everything was perfect but nou on a fresh install i have to deal with taking the ownership and all this stuff.

However , thank you for helping me with that folder :).
