I tried that as is in the tutorial. Disable/Enable Metro was added to the context menu, but if I click it the following error message was returned:

Script: C:\Windows\Toggle_Disable_Enable_Metro.vbs
Line: 3
Chan: 1
Error: Unable to open registry key
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RPEnabled" for reading.

From what I heard this registry hack doesn't work with CP.

Although I think Microsoft may consider including a "metro off" switch in future builds.

But actually "metro off" switch would ruin the store's profit.

Look, what i've created... just a few visits at the recyclement center was enough...
As mentioned...no RPEnabled reg key in CP...best solution seems to be download vistart...not the most graceful solution but works adequately

RPEnabled reg does exist in my W8 CP. I tried vistart but this did not work either: The start menu did show up but it includes only five items and "All Programs" is not in it. There is no option to customize the start menu.

It does not work and I really dont understand why people still want to diable Metro UI. In Windows Customer Preview change between interfaces is so easy !!!

I want to disable it because it blocks my view of the Desktop and those running in it. I see little good use of this screen. Though, once the Desktop applications now have shortcuts pinned on Taskbar and Desktop, there are still times I have to open the Start Menu which is now this nightmarish Start screen. It gets in the way..... That would not be hard to understand wouldnt it?

Exactly. As far as the UI is concerned, there is nothing positive about it. The change is simply for the sake of change.

Well its for the sake of M$ wanting a shot at the mobile market. Look at the videos M$ guys demoed Windows 8, they always use tablets, not an old Desktop....

I have used the Context Menu on and off switch for Metro on my Developer's Preview which I am still using everyday. I got that tutorial on this forum, I still remember how to assemble it. I still have the setup files to make it work and I did that trick to two guys whom I installed DP not long ago. I have Metro disabled up until now on my DP but sadly that tutorial was removed from this forum I think because it wasn't possible on the Consumer Preview anymore and now that the Start button is gone.

Yes, M$ is trying to catch up for mobile market, but should not forget about traditional PC controlled by a keyboard and a mouse.

I did the same with W8 DP. I like it because it is more responsive than W7. I think M$ would eventually restore the option of disabling the Metro. In the meantime I may have to go back to W8 DP.
