what downloads i need for computer to be safe and operate

Hi, We had recently went and bought and installed windows 8.1, however I had to restore computer like it was new to put it on here and now my question is what do I need on here so it will operate normally? We cant watch videos, look at pics normal, pop ups come up, cant get on a lot of sites that we could before, etc. My old one was Vista and it had all kinds of programs and worked just fine for everything, now I only have a couple things in programs ugh, I'm so confused, please HELP!!! I have adobe reader and Java s far lol

You need 32 & 64 bit Java.

Avast free:

AVAST 2014 | Protect your Windows PC

TrendMicro Housecall:

Free Online Virus Scan - Antivirus Software - Trend Micro USA

Run the TrendMicro Housecall & a full scan with Avast.

Run sfc /scannow & Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in administrator command prompts.
They are slow so be patient with them.

Yes, do post back with results.

It might take 5 or 6 hours to run all the scans.
After running them all, reboot.

To combat the popups you may also want to run adwCleaner: AdwCleaner Download But don't download the Zip Extractor. That's a bit confusing on the page. Use the blue buttons.
