UAC-How do I "trust" a program from an unknown publisher?

I'm running Windows 8.1 and I have an old version of photoshop elements in my x86 program files (it's elements 4.0, please don't laugh). I have UAC on the next to last setting before disabling it altogether. When I launch elements, UAC asks me if I trust it because it's an unknown publisher. I don't want to disable UAC, but I want it to trust elements and not popup the "are you really sure" box each time.

Hello Jigawatt, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Would that be an "Open File - Security Warning" dialog prompt like below instead of UAC?

113483d1289590705-open-file-security-warning-unblock-file-example-2.jpg

If so, then unblocking the file should stop it.

Open File - Security Warning : Unblock File - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

I'm running Windows 8.1 and I have an old version of photoshop elements in my x86 program files (it's elements 4.0, please don't laugh).

I purchased Elements 8 in/around 2009+/- which I still have running on my old XP Desktop. After I upgraded my new PC to 8.1 I was able to successfully load Elements 8 on my new PC and it works fine and I haven't had a crash or freeze events or errors even when doing some complex tasks. But I can tell you this: When you install older versions (pre 2011?) it also installs AdobeAir. This did and will cause all kinds of errors. It can easily be uninstalled, which I did and no more problems. The only effect it has on Elements is that it disables some of the on-line video tutorials. Adobe discontinued the AdobeAir add-on within recent years.

Thanks for the quick reply Brink. I'm new to Windows 8 and all this administrator stuff so I'm going to wade through this in the coming days.

Hello Adam,

If you only have the shortcut in your account after created, then it'll only work in your account. :)

Thanks Shawn, that's not quite what I meant though. In the tutorial we enable the Administrator account and then inherit permissions from it. What I meant is after this is done can I disable the Administrator account again. There are a couple of programs I'd like to do this for (Sysinternals sync mainly) but I don't want the Administrator account enabled. I could test it I suppose (in fact I will).

Edit: Unfortunately if you disable the Administrator account the shortcut created in the tutorial stops working.

@Adam,

Yeah, if you disable the built-in Administrator, the shortcut will stop working until the account was enabled again. :(
