Anyone else notice that MS is getting rid of desktop gadget downloads?
Desktop gadgets - Microsoft Windows
Blurb:
Because we want to focus on the exciting possibilities of the newest version of Windows, Microsoft no longer supports uploading new gadgets. But that doesn't mean you can't still get gadgets. The most popular and highest-rated gadgets are still available on this page.

You won't need them and they will only be clutter once this OS is released. Considering apps will suspend and the apps easily replace gadgets it makes sense. I will miss my real time resource stats but I bet there will be something even better to replace them soon enough.

There is a couple of gadgets that are terrific tho! One is called system control and has 6 buttons, restart, shutdown, sleep, task manager, control panel, and run box. I can sleep the computer with one mouse button push, same with restart. The other is all CPU meter that show what is going on with all 8 cores and memory. I don't want to lose those! The last is a realtime weather that show temp, wind speed from a weather station a mile away.

I believe we are gonna get metro apps for all these very SOON... at least I hope so, coz gadgets kinda slow down your desktop when you have LOADS of them and metro apps don't show any negative impact on system performance...

That is what MS is hoping for, everything to run around Metro. The thing is that I don't NEED Metro, everything I do is on the desktop. Metro is just in the way for me. I might run an app occasionally but eventually folks are going to find apps are just shallow and restricted. You think they are so very cool at first, then you occasionally run them, then you NEVER run them. I have a bunch of apps on my tablet and I only USE 3 (out of the 80 or so loaded) on a regular basis.

I hope that in some day you can pin a tile (eg. weather app) to your regular desktop.

Exactly. Also gadgets tend to be awfully buggy or crash a lot randomly at times. I hope we get something better to replace it soon. Metro style apps that attach to the desktop sounds like a good idea but who knows if or what they will do yet.
