Hello, I'm new to Eight Forums but I've been in Seven Forums as "rohitaar"
So let me get to the topic..
As the title says.. I have Hybrid boot a.k.a Fast Boot enabled before..
This occurred to me last week.
When I click on shut down, It shows shutting down and displays turns off.. little later the screen turns on and the desktop comes back.. If I have turn it off, I have to force the PC by holding the Power button. I googled it and they said to turn off Hybrid boot, but it was the only reason I installed Windows 8..
Now that I turned it off, it takes a while to turn on/off the PC..
what should I do?
Special Thanks to Quick Repliers and helpers..
P.S. This not only affects Shut Down but Sleep, Hibernate and Restart too..

Hi rohidroid,

With only 2GBs of RAM, I can see the possibility of many unexplainable issues cropping up. Have you considered adding more RAM? In any event, I have chosen to disable fast startup (automatically) by deleting the hibernation file that I do not use. This returned about 6GBs of prime SSD space for me to use elsewhere. Now, after doing so, it takes about 10 seconds to boot to the desktop; whereas, it only took 7 seconds with fast startup enabled. I usually take an extra sip of coffee during that 3 second interval and then go to work.

BTW Fast Boot helped me to boot faster than normal boot by 10 seconds.. So i'm really considering it for now.. Any other solutions?

Not from me at this time; however, hang in there and I'm sure you will get some additional suggestions. However, if I had to choose between a graceful shutdown or a 10 second startup boost, I would choose the former. BTW, how long does it take (in extra seconds) for your PC to shutdown with this issue? Are you losing the 10 seconds you gained on the front end by the increased slowdown in you shutdown time? Of course it is always one's choice on how to proceed so the best of luck to you.

It takes about 10 more seconds.. Yeah I would also choose that.. but why did it stop working all in a sudden?
That is my question.

Nope...... tried un-installing it but with no luck....

FYI, My HP Pavilion's shutdown totally quit working, along with sleep and everything else. Nothing worked to fix it... ended up refreshing the PC, which took it back to Windows 8.0. Now it sleeps and shuts down fine. My sleep settings worked for a short time with 8.1, until I uninstalled a version of Windows Office 2010 and reinstalled a 2012 version, along with an English 2007 Home version in 32-bit (My wife is Korean, and we need both).

Something in that process is what started my sleep/shutdown issues, I think.

I am back on 8.0, and won't be upgrading to 8.1 just yet. I find it more important to be able to shut my computer down and/or sleep properly. Before, it would just hang on a black screen and race the CPU forever, causing the fans to go nuts.

I have over 6gb of Ram, by the way. It came with Windows 8.

possibly because you refused to try what my2cents suggested, I think this is a hard solve because so many different causes, maybe a driver or software update could cause it or fix it. for me the issue of 10 seconds different bootup is a no brainer .good luck ,I hope someone with better suggestion will come along

Yes, we do, but you told us you're going to wait until Summer to install more RAM. So, although you're looking for another solution, most likely none of us is aware of much of anything that will help until you get the additional RAM installed.

The first advice a tech will give to someone with a slow computer is to upgrade his/her RAM. A screaming fast motherboard with the fastest CPU will run like crap with only 2 GB RAM. As 2Cents told you. The simplest and most efficient upgrade is to add more RAM/DRAM; and the faster it will run.

According to your system specs, you have an Intel Pentium Dual-Core 3.0, which is a pretty decent machine; however, with each new operating system from the time of the CPU manufacture, the more stress is put on a system. I don't remember exactly when the Dual-core systems first came out, but they're not the newest technology, which is not to play down the value of your computer at all. In fact, when I buy new equipment, I always opt for "last year's model" simply because it's good enough for me. That said, this Windows 8 "last year's model" came with 8 GB RAM! So, I'm guessing that Windows 8 needs more RAM than Windows 7, although I'm guessing that if I took it back to bare metal, even Windows 7 would scream with 8 GB RAM!

So, to quote my mother, who was full of old sayings, "Stop beating a dead horse and buy the additional RAM when you can." Your computer will thank you.

Also, as a FYI, under General Posting Rules: 2) No useless posts, e.g., thread bumping, useless one liners, junk posting to increase post count, and identical multi-postings in different forums.
