I am having trouble with my computer and would appreciate whatever help I can get. I am running win 8.1. I have 16gb Ram, 1.5tb HD, 3.0 quad core processor. Basically what happens is the mouse works, but everything else is totally unresponsive. I can click on any icon and nothing happens. The stuff I have on the task bar, if I click on something it says that it cant find it, that it might have been moved and of that good stuff and if I want to remove. You can shut down or restart the computer. You have to power it down to get it off. Once it has booted up it runs ok until the next time it happens. Usually a day or two later. If anybody out there as any ideas of what is going on i would really appreciate the help.

have you tried sfc scannow from an elevated command prompt as a starting point?

OK, I googled sfc scannow. And found out want to do. After the scan was complete I got the following message:
Windows Resource Protection Found Corrupt Files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are found in CBS.log.

What does all of that mean? Do I have to reinstall win 8.1 to fix the problem. I am sure looking forward to hearing from somebody in regards to this problems.

I wanted to thank Wullail for replying.

I thought that I would let you all know where I stand in regards to this problems. I googled the message that I got and found the following response. DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. I dont really understand what this does, but after I ran it and rebooted my computer I ran sfc /scannow a 2nd time and I got a good report without any corrupt files. I guess that only time will tell if this has solved my problem.
