Windows XP Search was good for that sort of thing.

As soon as you start a search by typing something into the search box at the top right of File Explorer (or even clicking on the box) a Search Ribbon pops up which has several options (including dates).
You can also type more advanced filters into the search box.

As an example, if I want to search for MP3s modified between 21/10/2013 and 31/01/2014, I would use this string in the search box in File Explorer.
I'm in the UK so this is in UK date format; it may look slightly different where you are.
*.mp3 datemodified:21/10/2013 .. 31/01/2014
