Minor weirdo: Phantom taskbar icons

I've been getting phantom taskbar icons using the generic folder or application icons. They have no name and a zero-height preview window when I mouse over them, but just about any interaction with Windows silently removes the icon. What's going on?

I'm having the same problem, it looks just like that:

Anyone can help?

EDIT: I think it has something to do with the "Charm" toolbar (or however it's called) - menu on the right of screen (with Start, Search, Share etc. options) because when I opened the Narrator it told me that I have about six "Charm" windows opened, and when I googled it I found that this is that hidden toolbar on the right. Well, I used this toolbar few times but it has never opened any windows at all. I hope you guys can help since it's really annoying.

No idea as such, but I've also seen that (in fact, one of these icons popped up just as I was typing this). As you state, mousing over the icon just shows an empty preview window, and either right or left clicking it (the icon) or the taskbar makes it disappear.

I get this as well. every 5-10 seconds a new button appears on the taskbar, with an icon resembling either windows explorer or some windows dialog box. all it takes is clicking anywhere on the taskbar and they will all close. they don't seem to hurt anything, but it's still an annoyance. does everyone get this? anyone found a solution?

I have discovered that changing the windows theme seems to affect this happening. it seems perhaps when I customize a theme, it happens, but when I use a theme's default settings, it's fine. I will experiment with it more and report any findings.

ok, I think I've narrowed it down: it seems to only happen when you use anything but automatic for the windows color. can someone else test and verify?

Mine is set to Automatic and I'm still getting them.

It seems like some of them correspond to actual application windows - one of them got added to the Explorer entry on the superbar as if it was an Explorer window, and another one when moused over indicated that it shared boundaries with my open Pidgin window.

since I switched to a theme with automatic color, I've stopped getting them completely. even if I use the same exact theme, the phantom windows start popping up as soon as I change from automatic color. changing any other settings seems to have no effect, however.

I'd kind of prefer to not be using automatic color, though. I'm only currently using it because it's stopped the phantom windows.

I've got to reinstall OS, but when I have some free time I will install CP again as second one and test it out. Thanks for your information anyway, I hope it will help.

I've reinstalled OS, got all the drivers working and most of apps too, and so far I'm not getting this bug. Probably not changing theme is helping. We will see after some time ;]

Ditto.

Just thought I'd mention that I'm having the same problem.

Edit: switching themes and leaving the color as "automatic" seems to have solved it, as well. I did change the background though.
