hello everyone,
So I was curious as I found all these guides for powershell but in my security classes we use cmd, other then cmd predating powershell I was curious what is the difference between the two in terms of what would you use them for? Thanks for any input.

Power Shell is a far more advanced shell then cmd which by Linux standards is very primitive. Of course there is much more to learn if you are going to take full advantage of it's features.

Thanks everyone,
I am currently learning my way through powershell with the guides I found on technet, have used the terminal (Bash) in Linux quiet a bit, no Unix admin but can definitely get around with no problems. Will powershell every replace cmd?

Will powershell every replace cmd?

I hope not. A load of extra stuff to learn and it requires net bloatwork.

I don't know after playing with power shell my only complaint is it feels so slow. After I type the most simple process it takes a couple seconds where cmd is just so snappy.

I've been playing around with Powershell lately. It's nice but I still prefer cmd.

Also, Windows Powershell ISE is great for testing script files without actually having an effect on the system. You can compile test scenarios & debug things it's really nice. :)

The command line is just that, a place to type in commands.

powershell however is far more like a scripting language, but with a simpler cmdlet oriented interface. Powershell is great for automating repetitive tasks of day to day IT life.
