Making Adjustments in Win 8/64 i.e. Flashplayer/tool bars,

Coming from XP, (now have win 8/64bit) was able to find ''add-ons'' to disable Flashplayer - i think that's the way to stop the 'animated' ads ? On win 8 where is this control ? Also went to Display looking for way to enlarge the scroll bar & the 'back forward' arrows upper right of screen ...again found how to make items larger/smaller (i.e. icons) but nothing that addresses these two items; thanks so much ! edythe
PS: monitor is HP -came with CD (no directions tho) called HP told CD didn't play a part in installation -not really required to use but i was wondering if it contained 'drivers' that would make a difference in the display? (i know the term ''drivers' - LOL but that doesn't mean i know 'what' they do !) should i load the CD and see - if there are 'drivers' should i go ahead now and install them ? would they overwrite anything that Windows would have done once i connected the monitor to the tower ? thanks again

for the addons question .if you are using the desktop version of IE 11,open IE and go to tools on the top toolbar, click on manage addons .and in there is where you find the option to disable flashplayer if indeed it is installed on you computer ,but not positive it will stop those adds .
as for monitor driver ,I have been using computers for years now and have never had to install a monitor driver since about 15 years now.
are you referring to IE 11 ,when you talk about the back and forth arrows and the scroll bar ,if so I don't think it possible to change just those 2 features ,only thing I can add to that is maybe changing the screen resolution ,but that changes everything on the screen

I'm currentyl on google chrome - so i can't ck which version if i.e. I have - i did find add ons via internet options didn't see adobe flashplayer - saw ''shockwave flash''and i chose to disable it but animated ads still showing on some sites

Then there has to be some other reason i find many areas with 'pale' printing especially in my email programs -not where i compose - i can adjust that but in the 'inbox' list of mail waiting for me...maybe that's just the way the program is setup...(aol mail)

yeah, tried that - with xp you could adjust the scroll bar and back/forth arrows up in the browser area... Thanks so much for responding !
