8.1: Smart search: find system apps like in Win8.0

Hi,

anyone noticed how crappy the smart search has become in the change to 8.1? Before, I could smartsearch for "audio devices" or "device manager", and I would get a result that brought me straight to the requested system control panel. Now, those results at lower levels of the system controls are gone and the most I can find through the search is the system conrol panel.

Anyone knows how to repair that?

Thanks,
Simon L.

If you are looking for system apps, it is easier to use Win + X.

I haven't noticed any reduced ability of search in 8.1
If you would like to improve the results, you could modify your index by including a particular folder.

or ,if you have a mouse in your hand all the time like me ,you could just right click on the windows icon in the lower left of the taskbar for the same list

I was aware of Win-X. But it's not the same.

With the search in Win8, I was kinda able to search "deinstallieren" (german, system language) and even "uninstall" and it would deliver the search result for the windows software management panel where you could uninstall software. And many others, like, anything in a category or subcategory of the system control panel. I really hate it that this useful feature is gone.

I type "uninstall" and and get multiple choices one was programs and features ,
and then "service" and it gave me again multiple choices one was services ,
when in search you can choose where you want to search ,drop down arrow just below the word SEARCH ,by default it says everywhere ,just click the arrow
it has changed from win8 for sure

Mh, my results look like this:
2014-01-23_1702.png
Dropdown menu brings no improvements either; if I change "Everywhere" (german: "Überall") to "Settings" (german: "Einstellungen") no relevant results appear either.
same if I search for the german keywords.

Hello. Apologies. I do not understand the point.
Are you looking for system apps or "Programs and Features" uninstallers?
What are you looking for? If I need to find a special item often, I would place a shortcut in AppData.
It depends how your system is set up. I don't know what you are looking for. Sorry.
Your screenshot seems to successfully list programs to uninstall when using uninstall as a keyword?

Hi,
I am looking for search results from the system applications repertoire. In Win8, the search function apparently had indexed near anything from the system control panel's subfunctions, like "device manager", "sound devices", "uninstall programs", "Mouse" (which led directly to the mouse control panel) and so on. Now the most I can get is just the system control panel.

Okay, then this is good to know and I think I just have a demon in there that eats up my results. Grrr.

Any good exorcists?
