I've enjoyed Windows 8 since the very first day Microsoft released the first development build to the public. I really do hope they continue this path.

I'm not one of the sheep that read Windows 8 hate articles that focus only on the start screen and instantly jump on board.

I'm a user. I have used Windows 8...EVERY...SINGLE...DAY...since the first dev build release. I use a mouse and keyboard as well. I work on it, I watch streaming TV on it, I communicate on it, I help make the world a better place on it and I get my gaming fix on it as well.

Windows 8 is the future and I have embraced it with open arms and the future is looking very bright for me. I'm proud to be a Windows 8 user.

:thumb::ditto: :geek: Have to Agree. Thanks for the post.

Users are generally attracted to classic shells and desktop modes. I, for one, prefer going to apps,
pressing Ctrl minus, or clicking the minus at the bottom right corner, and selecting from a group.
(semantic zoom) Also a few tiles on the start is nice. Others have different preference.

The thought of "touch" has never been a factor. The mouse and keyboard work beautifully, effortlessly. But then, I am a member of the geek squad, so to speak. Even so, lots of geeks can't stand the sight of tifkam. It seems to me an equitable improvement on desktop dock launching tools. It is unfortunate the apps screen does not emulate the desktop menuing sublevels and be backward compatible with older installers. Apparently, quite obviously, users are very confused about how Windows 8 works, by evidence of them complaining about no start menu or how to shut down. Anyone using Windows not aware of Ctrl Alt Del, well ...

I've been using it since Dec 2013 and loving it since day 1.
Had to learn a few things to get around but I had a harder time learning 98 because I had no computer knowledge at all.
Once I learned Tab advances to next box, Ctrl+X,C,V,Y or Z do their thing. I was into learning keycuts and shortcuts. Toolbars.
8's a walk in the park with speed compared to its predecessors . I haven't really had any glitches to speak of except a driver.
No way would I want to give up my start screen. Or metro IE for banking.

I suppose that if you had passed reading comp., you'd have been able to suss out the subtle nuance that it is tifkam many have issue with, and not windows 8 in and of itself.

Once I tweaked 8.1 pro a bit, it seems like xp pro in a way.

It works pretty good.

No real issues.

With classic shell & Revo Uninstaller & CCleaner & Macrium Reflect & various other things, things go pretty smoothly.

Yep, it's a good OS.

I think the people that complain a lot do stupid things to their computers, or just lack understanding.

The ones lacking understanding, I really enjoy helping. :)

I run Windows 8.1 on an Asus Transformer tablet and in a virtual partition on my desktop PC. It works well on both system. However, the UI is not optimal for desktop use - OK for the tablet though. On the desktop I will stay with Windows 7 until they come up with something better.

The main problem with the tablet is that there are really no useful applications. My Android Nexus I use for navigation, trip planning and free calls within North America and from Europe to the US. None of that is available in 8.1. Compared to the Google Playstore, the MS apps are really poor.

My wife will use the Asus Transformer when we are on the road - it weighs only 2.3 pounds. But I think I will stick with my Nexus.

I love it too.....in desktop mode. Then again, I'm old and in a rut. Touchscreen fine on tablet and phone. Not so much on laptop or desktop. Just me.

Is stable and faster in my experience.

Sure you can do (most) everything. But often in a much more inconvenient way as in 7.

Example: Find Resource Monitor in 7 and then try to find it in 8.1.

With my Start Menu 8 I simply type it into the "Search programs and files bar" after I click the Windows orb. Quite easy.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Being a douche I suppose.

This will never end. There are mousies and touchies. Especially when it comes to desktops and large laptops compared to tablets and phones.

LOL. Of course it will never end. This insisting that tifkam is for touch only is obsurd on its face. Anyway, a tablet or phone could never satisfy what I do, and touch is a useless technology for how I work. That is why this unwavering push that tifkam is for touch only and that it is difficult to use or not designed for mouse and keyboard or the desktop defies reality. I see no distinction between users pointing choices.
No one can do all touch, no one can do all mouse, no one can do all keyboard.

And for comparative simplicity, you said "click the orb", right, and when I am looking at start or apps, typing a few letters gets what I am looking for. LOL

I eventually found it. But not that way - it did not work. Maybe my system is retarded. Have to check on my new tablet.

LOL. I believe that. If search does not work, something is not right (on your system).
Funny, kidding about the tablet? A tablet can also be a personal computer that uses a mouse and keyboard, ha, ha. LOL

That's what I do. I use a bluetooth mouse and the keyboard - plus ths stylus for occasional tapping. I really bought it for the wife for when we travel because she has trouble with my Nexus. It is this one:
