Computer freezes (presumably while browsing)

Hello.

Lately, I have been experiencing freezes, I presume while browsing with Google Chrome. They happen randomly and when my computer freezes, I can still click on icons, close/open tabs on Chrome and generaly move my mouse. The only issue is that my computer won't respond to any action performed. There is no blue screen associate, there are no "Program not responding" issues, just a freeze that lasts around 10-20 seconds.

Do you people have any idea what kind of an issue that is? Thanks!

As far as I can tell, this only happens while browsing with Chrome. A few times that I've used Firefox, it didn't happen. I've turned all plugins off on Chrome to begin with.

I tried that. It doesn't work. Apparently, I am fine with firefox but I prefer Google Chrome since I'm more used to it and I believe it's more flexible than Firefox. What could be causing it?

It's likely an old driver on your system, or poor antivirus...

or when Windows 8 was in beta, Chrome was notorious for freezes and there was some kind of disable code for something that fixed it for everyone. It shouldn't be needed anymore because Google fixed it, but maybe the code will help you if you can find it.

But probably a driver issue.

I am not using any Antivirus and the drivers I use are Windows 8.1 compatible and the latest. I've been trying the solution you suggested but it didn't work (I am not on an intel motherboard too).

You're welcome to run the tool in Brink's sticky thread, then post the results here.

Even if you've never experienced a bsod on the machine, the collection tool will provide much useful information.

Here's my data retrieved from the tool you mentioned:

You do not have the proprietary storage drivers installed for your storage ports.

Code:
Name Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
Manufacturer (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)
Status OK
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_439C&SUBSYS_76401462&REV_40\3&11583659&0&A1

Install this: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/13-12_win7_win8_32-64_raid.exe

If that doesn't fix it, use a different mouse or keyboard than the Razer device you have now, to test. Uninstall Razer driver/software while doing so.

It doesn't let me download it because I was referred to the link from an external website apparently.
