Solved Need help in clarifying a regedit issue

Hi Shawn,

Still struggling to come to terms with my Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit... Your help in clarifying the (regedit) issue below would be very much appreciated.

1. I backup a registry key (say HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons)

2. I delete that key

3. I merge the exported .reg file

4. I go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons and the key is not there :shock:

I have tried that with a couple of keys and it looks like I can export, delete... but not restore a registry key.

Please help me.

Where you able to fully approve merging the exported .reg file to add it back without any errors?

You may need to refresh Registry Editor.

First of all THANKS for having created a new thread and relocated my post

I sorted the issue (weird enough the exported reg file turned out to be in an unusual format, so I opened it in a Notepad advanced clone and set the file format to DOS)... The imported key now got properly merged in the registry
