HP Compaq CQ2924EA Desktop 8.1 Upgrade Issue

Ive only had this computer since october. I upgraded to 8.1 about 1 month after it came out. I did notice after this that my computer didn't always boot first time - but no real problems - but on friday it loaded a blank desktop - that saturday refused to load at all - and I had to do a reset. After the upgrade to 8.1 failed - it got stuck on 'protecting your files' - Yet another reset. I was thinking Hardware - but since running on plain win 8 its been fine...

Any thought ?

Thanks for that..unfortuanatley - it says my computer hasn't been tested with 8.1 - so there is not help or instructions & and it warns my system may become unstable if I upgrade to 8.1 .........err......thats it !

So what do I do now ?
