Desktop top left corner - can't put an icon there anymore?

Today, for the first time, when I started my computer, the icons on the desktop (I use the old-style desktop) had shifted such that there was nothing in the top left corner. And I cannot drag anything up there anymore - there's this blank spot where I always used to keep my "My Documents" user profile folder. I turned off the option to be able to point up there and switch apps, and it didn't help. I have googled like mad and can't find anyone reporting this weird issue. Has it happened to anybody else?

Windows 8.1 on a Samsung laptop, still waiting for my recovery disk...

Hello Fotyc,

As a test, right click or press and hold on your desktop, and click/tap on Auto arrange to toggle it on (checked) and off (unchecked) to see if that may help with sorting your desktop icons.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

When they were sorted, they used all the available space. When I turned that off and started arranging them my way again, the behavior returned. I'm now at the point where I have my user folder at the top left and then a blank spot below that, if I try to fill that blank spot the user folder jumps down out of the top left again. I'm going to see what happens after I turn off the computer and start it up tomorrow. Thanks.

In addition, also check the Align icons to grid option if not already in the same menu to see if that may help.
