My windows 8 pro, now 8.1 pro were all updates from XP, two of which were bought directly from Microsoft directly when they were cheap and the other was the 2 dvd retail upgrade. My question is, do I keep or bin the XP discs and COA's?

You should keep 'em, at least until Mid 2014 when Support ends. That way if something happens, and you have to re-install onto a blank HD, you should be able to repeat the upgrade process, if you can't stick Windows 8/8.1 back in directly. If you can re-install 8/8.1 directly from an image or a disk, then it does not matter. But I'd say, save it anyway, just in case.
