There doesn't appear to be an easy way to do this. Any ideas on how to make Windows lock but not go to sleep when a laptop lid is closed?

Thanks. I've seen that but I'm not willing to download something from a random website. I was hoping someone here would know of a reg edit to change an existing option.

Yeah, that is sparse. I didn't realize it was just an exe in a zip. Coding Snacks is a forum on DonationCoder that I've been on for years. Please read the instructions before posting your request. The idea of the forum is that small programs that don't require a major investment of time will be written on request. Also if an existing freeware or other software that does the job is known, it will be suggested. It's a fun thing because if your program is written and accomplishes the task, usually the author is willing to tweak it to make it easier to use or add a feature.

Edit: See the info on joining the forums. Donations are encouraged but not mandatory.

I've been doing a lot of searching. This seems to be one of those things that should be easy to detect, but isn't. Best bet is coding snacks I think.

This script claims to do it (it is a forum I've been on for years so not fly by night.)

I have to change my setting to "do nothing" to try it out. If it works adding lock call is one line of code (just send Winkey l via macro.

I don't fully get how it works yet, but when I leave it running with my Lid Close power setting at "do nothing" the system locks when I close the lid. He must be locking it via an API call. But it does seem to work. :)

Thanks. I'll give that a shot tomorrow. Hard to believe that something so simple isn't a standard feature or can't be easily implemented.

Turns out that script works fine. It just has to be run as administrator. I ran it after setting my power option for close lid to Do Nothing. I closed the lid and opened it. The screen was locked. After entering password the test text output was there too. Nice little program. Maybe some tweaks to open the window minimized if you want it to sit in the tray.. etc..
