Customizing the taskbar

How do I remove the thumbnail preview thing form the windows on the task bar? I'm finding them to be more annoying than helpful.

How do I make new windows open at the end of the task bar, rather than beside similar windows?

The tutorial below can show you a few different methods that can be used to effectively disable taskbar thumbnail previews in Windows 8/8.1
I'm afraid that icons of newly opened windows will always open at the end of the last icon on the taskbar.

Hm, they don't open at the end for me, that's what I want though. If I have a folder open and I open another one, it'll open beside the first one, rather than at the end of the line.

That's normal for icons already opened on the taskbar. When you open multiple windows for the same program (ex: Windows Explorer) they group together on the same icon or button on the taskbar.

There's not a way that I know of to prevent that.

You might see if this may help, but it's only to show icons or buttons on the taskbar. Buttons will still open beside the original, but it will not be as tightly grouped like an icon.

Hm, I see. ): I have it set to not combine, but like windows still stick together. Thanks though.

And I did one of the things to remove the preview/thumbnails and it works. Thanks much there.
