I am using HyperTerminal. I've used it with no problems for years, including thru my upgrade (??) to Windows 8. I am now getting the message "Windows has reported a tapi error (80000048). Use the Phone and Modem Options icon in the control panel to ensure that a modem is installed properly." I "upgraded" to 8.1 shortly after it came out. I can't remember if this is the first time I've used HyperTerminal since that upgrade or not.
I know I don't have a modem. I have a cable that runs to my computer from some equipment that's remote from my office.
When I clicked on Phone and Modem, it said "P&M control panel can not [sic] be opened. You may have a problem starting telephony service." I ran services.msc and found telephony. It said it was running but it was something that had to be started manually. I clicked 'restart', but that didn't help.
Any ideas? Thanks!
